Singleton Coastcare Planting Day

9am • Sunday 10th July 2011.

Join us for a fun day of planting at the main Singleton Beach and be rewarded with a sausage sizzle afterwards. Everyone is welcome, meet us at 9am at the toilet block at the main Singleton Beach, intersection of Singleton Beach Road and Foreshore Drive.

Parents feel free to bring your kids along even for an hour or two to help them become involved in looking after their environment.

Weed control will be undertaken in the next month and then on the day in July we will be planting native plants to replace the weeds. Native plants provide habitat for animals and are more effective at stabilizing the dune system than weeds.

The other main focus of this project is to engage the Singleton Community in looking after our beautiful coast. There will be Environmental Officers from Southern Metropolitan Coastcare and the City of Rockingham there on the day who will be able to talk to you about the coast, native plants and any other questions you may have.

This Coastcare planting project was made possible through a CoastWest grant, thank you Coastwest. The support of the Singleton Residents Association, City of Rockingham and Southern Metropolitan Coastcare is also very much appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing many Singleton locals down there on the day!

Please RSVP to Natalie by 4 July 2011 for catering purposes – singleton.editor@gmail.com or phone Natalie on 0421 697 783.

The Singleton Coastcare group in partnership with the Singleton Residents Association, the City of Rockingham and South Metropolitan Coastcare successfully received a CoastWest grant.

This grant will fund weed control and native plants for the Singleton dunes to be planted by the community in winter 2011.

Keep an eye on this site for more information on how to be involved in protecting our beautiful coast.

Thank you CoastWest!

Fun was had by all at the Singleton Coastcare group planting day on Saturday June 19. With over 30 volunteers we managed to get the

500 coastal native species planted well before lunch time at the site next to the Bight Reef Road beach lookout. Thanks to Craig from Coastcare in the KIA & the City of Rockingham. Coastcare volunteers on the day included Singleton residents and Conservation Volunteers Australia all of whom were treated with morning tea and a Coastcare hat and T-Shirt. It was a terrific chance to learn and care for our beach. Keep an eye out for more Coastcare activities and keep it in your diary for next year. A big thanks to our volunteers!  Natalie Lees 0421 697 83
